Le Miroir

Le Miroir is a 6:00” short film which we wrote and directed in 2010. It tells the story of a man - in the sense of the human being - which passes from childhood to the status of "old man", the time to freshen up. Le Miroir was selected in several international film festivals and won numerous prices. Vimeo “staff picked” the short and it has over 4 million views online.

The actors

What makes this project so special is that our actors are three generations of the same family; Henri, Pierrick and Zachary Destraz.

Only one missing link was casted to cover the teenage part; Jules Martinet.

The set

A full set was built in a studio in Lausanne to create the bathroom. Here are a few sketches and pictures.

Moodboard

The shoot

Through an intensive five-day shoot, we faced many challenges ranging from; directing kids, POV camera moves (big shout out to our DOP extraordinaire Hans Meier), movement symmetry and make up marathon sessions.

Up to 50 takes were needed to “nail” each scene of the film.

Making of

VFX

Although the reflection’s trick was practically an actual hole in our set, many hours were spent in post production to add texture, stickers and cracks to the mirror’s plane. Thanks to Nicolas Elsig for his masterful work!
